March 11, 2026 (6:30 PM - 8:00 PM)
Hello everyone,
I’d like to invite you to a joint Zoom evening hosted by the Cusanuswerk initiatives _Catholic Social Ethics_ and the _Initiative Teilen e.V._: On Wednesday, 11 March 2026, Auxiliary Bishop Vincent Mwakhwawa (Archdiocese of Lilongwe, Malawi) will speak in English at 6:30 pm on the topic **“What Does Just Development Cooperation Look Like? Perspectives from Catholic Social Teaching and Practical Partnership Work between Africa and Europe.”**
The evening will last about 90 minutes and will start with a 45-minute talk, followed by an open discussion. To receive the access details, please register by emailing [ini-kath-sozialethik@cusanus.net](mailto:ini-kath-sozialethik@cusanus.net).
In his talk, Bishop Mwakhwawa will explore what “just” cooperation actually means in practice: How can partnerships be designed in a way that is truly mutual and not shaped by paternalism? What role do power asymmetries, funding structures, accountability, and local ownership play? And how can the principles of solidarity, subsidiarity, and human dignity help us navigate concrete dilemmas, from project planning and evaluation to political debates on aid, migration, climate justice, and global economic structures?
Bishop Mwakhwawa has been Auxiliary Bishop in the Archdiocese of Lilongwe, Malawi’s capital, since 2023. Before that, he served as National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Malawi. He will share insights from church-based development work and reflect on how these principles can take shape in real projects, institutions, and public discourse.
Warm regards and have a nice weekend.
